A card for first billing is a payment method you attach to a Facebook ad account to start spending. The key thing to understand: one physical card can be linked multiple times, but there are limits on how many times and what happens after.
When you buy cards for first billing from us, they come without a balance. You link them to activate a new ad account and start running ads. The card itself isn't consumed—it's just a payment method sitting in the system.
How Many Times You Can Link One Card
A single card can be linked 5 to 10 times across different ad accounts. After that, Facebook flags it as overused and stops accepting it for new links.
This doesn't mean the card is banned. It just means you've hit Facebook's internal threshold for how many times one payment method can activate fresh accounts. The platform sees this as a pattern and tightens up.
The exact number within that range depends on how quickly you link the same card, the accounts themselves, and Facebook's current detection sensitivity. Space out your links if you're running multiple accounts.

What Happens After 5–10 Links
Once a card reaches its limit, Facebook will reject it when you try to attach it to a new account. You'll see an error during payment method setup—the system simply won't accept it.
At this point, the card is exhausted for new account activation. It won't work for linking to fresh ad accounts, but it may still work on accounts where it was already linked before the limit kicked in.
Active Time: 12 Hours from Purchase
Cards are active for 12 hours from the moment you buy them. Within this window, you need to link them to ad accounts and get them working. After 12 hours, the card may stop responding or become harder to use.
This is why timing matters. If you buy a batch of cards, plan your linking schedule in advance. Don't buy them and wait—use them within the active window.

Strategy for Multiple Accounts
If you're running several ad accounts, use different cards for each one. Reusing the same card across too many accounts triggers Facebook's fraud detection faster.
Buy enough cards so each account gets its own payment method. This spreads the linking load and makes your account setup look more natural to the platform.
If you're working with a team or running accounts in rotation, coordinate who links what and when. Linking the same card to 10 accounts in one hour looks worse than spreading those links over a few days.
When a Card Stops Working
A card can stop working for several reasons:
- Linking limit reached: You've used it 5–10 times already.
- Outside the 12-hour window: Too much time has passed since purchase.
- Account flagged: Facebook detected suspicious activity on the account you're trying to link to, so it rejected the payment method as a precaution.
- Policy violation: The account itself triggered a restriction, not the card.
If a card fails, don't keep trying with the same one. Move to a fresh card and check the account for any flags or issues.

What to Do After Linking
Once you've linked a card and the ad account is active, the card's job is done. You don't need to do anything special. Facebook will use it to charge you as you spend on ads.
Don't remove the card immediately after linking—leave it attached so Facebook sees a stable payment setup. Removing and re-adding payment methods repeatedly looks suspicious.
If you need to switch to a different card later, you can add a new one and set it as primary. The old card can stay on file.
Buying Cards: What to Check
When you're choosing cards to buy, keep these points in mind:
- Fresh cards work better: Older cards that have been linked many times already are less reliable.
- Batch timing: If you're buying multiple cards, use them within the same 12-hour window so none expire unused.
- Account quality matters too: A card won't help if the ad account itself is flagged or restricted. Make sure you're pairing fresh cards with accounts that have clean history.
- Spacing out links: Don't link all your cards to new accounts in the same day. Spread the activity over time.
